How ReadToMe Helps Improve Spoken English

At EnglishHelper, we often travel to different parts of the country and meet people with truly exceptional stories. Here is Roopa’s story about her drive to improve her spoken English.

Teacher : “Who do you love more? You mother or your father?”

Roopa tries to answer, but something was holding her back. It was not her spoken English, a language she was exposed to for the first time just 2 years ago.

Roopa has been a quick learner, thanks to a very bright and industrious teacher who managed to instill her own curious mind into her students. Like many other students, Roopa has realized the importance of English.  ReadToMe is the tool that has engaged her in the classroom to help her improve her English speaking skills.

How ReadToMe Helps Improve Spoken English

By introducing its multi-sensory software ReadToMe, EnglishHelper has made learning more fun. The content on the ReadToMe software is the school prescribed English textbooks.

Every student gets to listen to the voice read at a pace that is chosen for their comfort, in an accent that they can follow. The teacher can also explore the other features like Spelling, Pronounce, Picture Dictionary, and Translate.

ReadToMe highlights words of the text, teaches spellings and pronunciations, and provides images for reference. All of these tools and techniques help the students enhance their spoken English. The software also has a magnifier that enlarges every word on the screen.

But Roopa, like most of her other friends loves the option to record and listen to their own voices. EnglishHelper records the student’s voice reading the text and plays it back for them. ReadToMe helps improve spoken English in many ways.

Looking at English Learning from a Different Perspective

Growing up in an urban setting, I had exposure to English at home and in school. For Roopa such is not the case.

At most, Roopa will attend a 40 minute English class five times a week. This is expected to make her converse and write in English, with no additional support. It is here that the multi-sensory ReadToMe software boosts the learner to understand every word for their meaning and relevance, at a pace that is tailored to their level of comfort.

What Roopa Has to Say!

The teacher asked again, this time, smiling at her.

She even encourages her to say in Kannada first, which she does. Roopa says she loves her mother more, because she takes care of her and dresses her up before school.

She then attempts to speak in English and manages to string a few sentences, with encouragement from her teacher.

Teacher: “Very good, Roopa! Now, tell the class why you love your father?”

Roopa looks down, smiles tenderly and says, in English, “No Father.”
