RightToRead Initiative Gets Under Way in City Schools

Despite our preference with the English language as a nation, its proficiency among government school children is low. According to the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), a survey conducted by Pratham Education Foundation, more than 50% of students in government schools cannot read English at a very basic level. What then is the best solution to teach English in an efficient manner?

This is where RightToRead (RTR), an initiative supported by EnglishHelper, in partnership with IL&FS Education and American Indian Foundation has stepped in to try to fill the gap. ReadToMe, a technology enabled software, designed to improve reading and comprehension of English, provides a multi-sensory experience, which enhances the students’ engagement and improves retention. Furthermore, ReadToMe is integrated into the curriculum and the teachers are trained and empowered to use the software in class. This software helps in improving English Language skills.

The goal of RightToRead is to show that reading and comprehension technology, when integrated with curriculum, can make a difference in literacy and scaled quickly and efficiently.
